asian modern in walnut creek  The extensive remodel of an existing house in Walnut Creek (suburban town in San Francisco Bay Area) consisting of completely new kitchen, dining area, media room and living room. New modern kitchen was designed with custom cabinets and stainless steel island with built-in dishwasher. Chunky bamboo eating bar counter was suspended on glass mosaic leg and rests on gray lava like stone floor. The main axis of the kitchen was accentuated by large industrial custom sized stainless steel hood – not only for esthetic reason but to allow for heavy cooking on large professional gas cooktop.

Main entrance hall and front door was reconfigured with new sycamore wood columns and grided door emphasizing modern Asian influences. The simple Asian motive was repeated in sliding pocket doors between the kitchen and family/media room with additional leather padding instead of glass for better sound attenuation.

Finishing materials and colors were chosen to enhance the contemporary Asian feel throughout the house.

The landscaping in the backyard was also redone to create japanese-like garden with bamboo plants, graveled paths and low black stone-like water feature.
